Do you know what is the advertisement's message on this bus? "International Ozone Day- on the 16 September 2007, endorsed by the Environment Department." The irony is, the message is placed on a bus whose engine is always on whenever parked at the bay. This photo was taken at one of the many LRT stations in Selangor. I wonder why can't Malaysian drivers switch off the engine whenever their vehicles are left idle on the road. In European countries, such as Switzerland, the drivers actually turn off the engines even when waiting for the traffic lights to turn green. Why are we so obsessed with turning the engines on even when the bus is not moving for half an hour or more? Maybe our Transport Minister should spend an hour, in disguise, in Kuala Lumpur's Puduraya bus station and experience the 'fantastic feeling' of the fume from the express buses there.

I know exactly what you mean as I have first hand experience. I used to travel almost every week between Kedah where I used to work and KL where my wife and kids were. Most of the time I used take the bus from Pudu. I hated the fumes and often wondered why these bus drivers let the bus running.
ReplyDeleteNowadays, I turn off the car's engine when parked for a long period of time while waiting to pick up someone. It's not that hard after all, heh!
