Peanuts' Creator

In the previous post, I talked about my new cartoon love PEANUTS and I’m excited to create English teaching lesson plans using the cartoon strip. Whilst designing the plans, I can’t help asking about what kind of person the creator was. So, I decided to wikepedia and google to find more about him.

The person’s name is Charles M. Schulz and he passed away nine years ago. He lived a ‘comical’ life of 78 years old. Mr. Schulz was the only child born to German-Norwegian parents and started drawing cartoons even when he was in elementary school, his frequently drawn character being Spike, his pet dog which was reflected as Snoopy in PEANUTS.

After returning from the army in 1945, Mr. Schulz worked as an art teacher and started to submit cartoon strips to the press. PEANUTS officially commenced in 1950 and he firmly requested that the comic strips are not to be duplicated or redrawn by others after his death. So, the strips we see until today are genuine and drawn by the master himself.

Almost all the characters in PEANUTS were adapted from real people in Mr. Schulz’s life. I will write a bit about them when I narrate the characters in the next post.
